Ashton-in-Makerfield is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan, Greater Manchester, England.
It lies in the Makerfield constituency, 4.2 miles (6.8 km) south of Wigan, 7 miles (11.3 km) north-northwest of Warrington, 16 miles (26 km) east of the city of Liverpool and 16 miles (26 km) west of the city of Manchester.
In 2001 it had a population of 28,505.

Ashton is a traditional northern market town situated at the junction of the M6 (J23) and the East Lancashire Road (A580). It has three high schools, a twice weekly market and is very close to Haydock Park Racecourse.
Ashton also boasts a wide range of independent retail shops alongside major banks and several national retail chains including B&M Bargains, Aldi, Boots, Costa Coffee, Wetherspoons and Coral.
